Equity benchmarks lost its all bullish trend of last week today, it was a sixth consecutive session towards downside. The Sensex fell more than 200 points, weighed down by weak rupee. Experts still believe this is just due to profit booking because the market has seen a substantial rise from 5100 level about 90 days ago to 6300, but they feel the momentum remains positive.

The Sensex slipped 209.05 points or 1.02 percent to 20,281.91 while the Nifty closed at one-month low of 6,018.05, down 60.75 points or 1 percent from previous close. Declining shares outpaced advancing ones by a ratio of 1467 to 975 on the BSE. In last six sessions, both benchmarks lost 5 percent each while Bank Nifty crashed more than 9 percent. CNX Midcap and BSE Smallcap dropped 3 percent each.

Market Closing Updates

The 30-share BSE Sensex started the week with a 175-point loss, continuing downward journey for the fifth consecutive session. Fed tapering fears and weakness in rupee against the dollar resulted in selling pressure. Sensex closed at 20490 by lossing 175 points while Nifty has shut shop at 6078 down by 62 points. 

Top Losers 

FMCG, capital goods, financials, oil & gas and auto stocks saw selling pressure while IT outperformed. Hindalco was the biggest loser among largecaps in the Sensex, falling more than 4 percent ahead of September quarter earnings on Tuesday. State Bank of India , ONGC and Larsen & Toubro plunged between 2-3 percent while Reliance Industries , ICICI Bank and Bharti Airtel declined over a percent.

Top Gainers 

Dr Reddys Labs bucked the trend with nearly 3 percent gains. Cairn India rallied over 2 percent on upmove in crude oil prices. Tata Steel maintained its uptrend despite weakness in market, gaining over 1 percent ahead of quarterly earnings on Wednesday. TCS and Infosys gained marginally on rupee depreciation.

• Buy Apollo Tyres above 75 level for target of 78 with stop loss at 73.50 
• Buy Tata Motors around 377 level with stoploss at 372, for target of 385-389 
• Buy Axis Bank at 1080 level for target of 1100 level and a stop loss at 1070 
• Buy ICICI Bank above 1040 for the target of 1055 level with stop loss at 1026
